National Cup Rugby at its finest!

Basingstoke U16 Girls welcomed Havant to The Cage for a thrilling National Cup encounter that had everything: early nerves, outstanding attacking rugby, momentum swings and a finish worthy of a Hollywood script!

Basingstoke settled their early nerves with an interception try, only for it to prove something of a false dawn as Havant responded strongly. The first half developed into a gripping exchange of tries, with neither side willing to give an inch. However, the boot of Basingstoke's number 10 proved the difference, helping the home side head into the break with a hard-fought 21–15 lead.

Havant came out firing in the second half and put Basingstoke under serious pressure, at one point turning the game around to lead 29–21. Facing a seven-point deficit, the girls had a choice: panic or dig deep.

They chose the latter.

In a first for the team, Basingstoke made the decision to go for points from penalties, showing the composure and tactical awareness to take the opportunities available rather than always chasing the try. Combined with a couple of crucial tries and a huge collective effort in defence, the girls fought their way back into the contest.

The final whistle confirmed an incredible 37–34 victory for Basingstoke in a match that showcased not only the girls' attacking talent but also their resilience, teamwork and ability to adapt under pressure.

With five tries shared between four different players, and contributions right across the squad, this was a true team performance. Every player played their part in a fiercely contested match that could have gone either way.

Two National Cup games, two wins — both hard-earned, both decided by the finest of margins. A huge well done to all 20 girls who took to the pitch, and thank you to Havant for a fantastic contest.

Basingstoke U16 Girls: heart, determination and a team that never gives up. ❤️💙
