A Basingstoke Rugby Club Men's 1st XV filled with confidence look to claim their first piece of silverware since the 2018-19 season, as they host New Milton in the Hampshire Cup Final in a 20:00 this Friday, 1 May. A rare run out under lights gives the side a chance to round off a successful season in style, which may prove to be a real coming of age moment for the squad.

The side rounded off their league season on Saturday with a six-try win away Bournemouth Nomads. The result and continuing a strong run of form was positive, but even more so was that the squad came through unscathed before this week's fixture, leaving South African head coach Eric Liebenberg with a near-full squad to pick from – only Dan Mairs, Jack Rushworth and Rhys Fletcher of his squads from the last few weeks are unavailable for selection.

“This match marks a culmination of hard work, depth, and a shared passion for rugby that runs through the club from first-team players to youth prospects and volunteers,” shares Liebenberg.

“More than 70 players have regularly represented Basingstoke’s three senior teams this season, underscoring the breadth of talent and ambition across the club.

"The Cup final is far more than a single match; it is a true club effort that includes players, supporters, staff, and volunteers who contribute to every matchday, for whose efforts I am incredibly grateful."

To add to the celebratory feel at the club, there will be an awards ceremony during half time to recognise the achievements of the club’s age group players who represented their counties at various age levels.

Entry to the match is free of charge, and all are welcome to attend. The clubhouse will open from 17:00 Friday night, with extended opening hours to accommodate the late kick off.
