Welcome to the home of the Basingstoke Under 12’s Rugby Team
We welcome new players, at any point in the season. No obligation and with a few free trail sessions…what have you got to lose? This age group is currently at full capacity and have a waiting list so it’s important to email the Team Manager to get on the list.
Under 12's Rugby at Basingstoke RFC is all about putting the children first and having as much fun as possible!
The coaching team will help develop their core skills in their contact rugby journey. We’ll be introducing new skills too as well as going back to competitive rugby tournaments/games (as soon as Covid allows).
All of our sessions are player-centred, and we work to develop our players' game understanding.
The players naturally grow at different rates and we look carefully at the needs of both the individual and the team in terms of their development, using a mix of skill-based exercises along with games that encourage teamwork and healthy children.
Perhaps, more importantly, the children make friends (outside of their school/friendship setting) which will create lifelong friendships, a feeling of belonging and more importantly that they are always part of a team/family who provide support.
We meet on Sunday mornings from September until April for general training. We also travel to other clubs in the Hampshire area for competitions and mixed club training sessions.
All home training is held at Down Grange, home to Basingstoke RFC. The U12’s are located on the middle pitches just up the slope! Training is on Sundays from 10-11:30am and we normally meet around 9:45am for registration and a prompt start at 10am. All players are required to bring a water bottle (no sugary drinks, sorry!), sensible layers of sportswear (no zips or tassels please) coupled with trainers or studded boots (pitch condition dependant) and most importantly a gum shield. Each player should come with a pre-moulded gum shield (widely available from sports shops) but the Team Manager may have some on site at a small cost which will go into the age group funds which help pay for events, pitch fees etc.
Please keep an eye on the weather. Rugby is an all-weather game (and the kids love the muddier days – as much as us parents don’t when they have to get back into our cars!) It’s played outside throughout the year and cold/wet weather, as well as glorious hot sunny days, are to be expected, so please bring appropriate clothing for the conditions as well as plenty of water. It is also a requirement of the age group for parents to be on the side-lines for all training/matches.
For the parents on the sidelines, the Clubhouse is open to everyone from 10am on a Sunday for hot drinks, bacon butties, burgers, chips and the all-essential refuelling food for the kids after training so please make use of the club’s facilities. It’s your club, so make use of it.
