Colts+U17

Basingstoke RFC Academy was formed in 2000 and comprises a mixture of boys from the U17, U18, and U19 age groups in the Club. The aim of the Academy is to allow the boys to continue playing and enjoying their rugby at Basingstoke RFC and so acquire the skills to move into adult rugby.

We gradually look to introduce members of the Academy into ‘adult’ rugby at an appropriate level within the Basingstoke structure when we consider that they are ready to do so.

This is normally a three year process, although for especially talented individuals we will fast track them into BRFC’s Gold Group, if they are assessed to have the necessary skills and physical development.

Throughout a player’s time in the academy we are encouraging and supporting them to develop their personal game and achieving success within the team.

Our squad size and age profile varies year on year depending upon the number of boys moving up from the junior section and the number of older boys moving up to play for the club’s adult teams (or moving off to university).

Over the years the Academy has produced many players who have gone on to play a high standard of Club rugby, into the Basingstoke 1st XV, represented the county, been involved in the junior International teams, and most notably in Tom Rees the full England team.
