I don't think any of us 8 weeks ago expected to be where are in today with regard to our lifestyles and activities. This lockdown is affecting us all in different ways and I do appreciate how challenging it must be at so many levels to maintain some normality.
This last week has been interesting. On Monday, I delivered 50 or so BRFC bags to Basingstoke Hospital with a pack of 5 disposable masks in for distribution amongst the staff and volunteers and I hope that this small gesture is useful in some way to the Nurses, Doctors and Cleaning Staff.
In addition, we had a very generous donation of International Match Programs dating back to the 1960's which our quiz maestro Mr Pritchard is listing on eBay to raise funds for the Club. Other very generous gestures of forfeiting International Ticket refunds have also been offered and this is very much appreciated by us all. To be clear, the Club from a financial position is ok, and the financials are being well managed by Roger our treasurer with weekly updates to the Committee.
I'm sure it goes without saying that we all have a desire to help the wider community during this very testing time and now you can. Thanks to three of our wonderful Team Managers (Sam Fawcett, Jessica Taylor and Ceri Fletcher), they have set up a foodbank donation station at the BRFC Clubhouse starting Monday 27th April and every Monday thereafter (2-3pm with social distancing measures in place). They are looking to our members and rugby community to donate non-perishable food/household cleaning items/ toiletries which will then be taken to the Spotlight Centre/ Trussell Trust for their care packages for those in need.
If you have a spare tin of soup, an unopened shower gel or would be kind enough to pop something extra into your basket when you do your next shop, bring it down to the team between 2-3pm on Mondays. All donations will be gratefully received.
