Basingstoke Under 9’s Rugby Squad Victorious At The Maidenhead Tournament.
Points For 80, Points Against 0
Despite a very late invitation to compete, allowing only four days to gather a team, Basingstoke Under 9’s Rugby team travelled to Maidenhead on Sunday 14th October. Although a number of the squad had played tag rugby in Under 7 and 8 age groups, some had only recently joined the club and for all this was their first outing playing full contact rugby at tournament level. Needless to say there was a high level of trepidation before the first match against the hosts. However all nerves were left in the dressing room and Basingstoke soon despatched Maidenhead 10 points to nil. With their first win under their belt Stoke faced Aylesbury and put in a phenomenal performance to win by 30 points to nil. There was no stopping the thundering, juggernaut which is the Stoke under 9’s, who swiftly went on to despatch Henley-on-Thames 10-nil, Roslyn Park 15-nil and finally High Wycombe 15-nil. The score lines reflecting the hard hitting tackles in defence and inspirational attacking runs by this winning team. Stoke ended the day as deserving champions winning all 5 matches without conceding a single point.
The victorious squad were Scott Bentley (1), Edward Boulton, Joseph Campbell (3), Harry Hall, Philip Hannah, Jordan Lockett, Daniel Mairs, Charlie Oliver (1), Jak Pill (2), Robert Shaw, Tim Taylor, Bailey Turner, Adam Warner (8) and Ewan Watson (1) Coach Chris Oatham.
