Basingstoke win away to Thanet, at last! Thanet Wanderers 33pts v Basingstoke 45pts Basingstoke finally got their act together to win for the first time this season away from Pack Lane. But as usual they did not make life easy for themselves. After starting strongly and going into a 15-0 lead they allowed the home side back into it and their inability to defend from lineouts cost them dear. Basingstoke backs held the key and were always looking dangerous but it wasn't until the very end that the visitors could pull themselves clear to win by 4 goals and 4 penalties to 3 goals, 3 penalties and a drop goal. In fact only one kick at goal was missed! Tries in the first half were two each to Gareth Jones and Chris Norton. The half-time score was 30-30 each. The second half with Stoke playing down the slope was a much quieter affair with a penalty to each side. Calder's kicking boots took the visitors ahead and the game was finally sealed with an interception try by Robbie Holmes converted by Ian Calder to bring his personal tally to 20 points.
