Basingstoke continue running win! Basingstoke
60 pts v Cheshunt 9 pts Playing with a strong wind at their backs Cheshunt had the best of the early exchanges and went ahead with a simple penalty from No 10 Andy Clements. They should have gone further ahead but Clements missed an easy penalty. Basingstoke slowly got going with their renowned three-quarters troubling Cheshunt, but all they could show for their efforts were four Ian Calder penalties against a further Clement's penalty for the visitors. The referee during the first half reduced the game to stop start by issuing 4 yellow cards, two for each side for persistent infringements. Half time Basingstoke 12 pts v Cheshunt 6 pts With the strong wind at their backs Stoke were always going to be the dominant side and they had no need to use the elements as the side got their act together and strong running from the three-quarters always ensured that the scoreboard would be busy. Neal Taylor carved his way through early in the half to score under the posts, Calder converting. Soon after Calder kicked an easy penalty. The forwards although not convincing in the tight, dominated the lineouts with Andy Wilson having a fine game in the second row. Phil Della-Savina worked his way over for a try wide out. The visitors came back into the game but never looked like scoring a try but they did reduce the arrears with a Clements penalty. But soon the score was ticking up after some fine handling by Ian Calder had put Simon Appleby over, Calder converting. Player of the month for February, Jason Rees then showed his strength by cutting through to score under the posts, converted by Calder. It was then more or less Calder all the way with 2 tries, converting one and converting the final try scored by Jason Rees, to bring his personal tally to 35 points.
